Humanoid Robots Using the Example of Figure AI

It has only been 31 months since the robotics company Figure AI was founded in Sunnyvale. And yet the start-up, which develops humanoid robots, has already made quite an impression. Not least thanks to a video showing a Figure 01 robot with ChatGPT integration carrying out tasks and explaining its activities.

Chip giant Nvidia invested in Figure AI in a financial round in February 2024. Other companies included Microsoft, OpenAI Startup Fund, NVIDIA, Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund, Jeff Bezos (with Bezos Expeditions), Parkway Venture Capital, Intel Capital, Align Ventures, and ARK Invest. Figure received a total of $675 million at the time, at a company valuation of $2.6 billion.

Another video showing two figure robots at work in a BMW car factory setting shows just how quickly progress is being made. The robots take parts and assemble them at a different location.

The first robots (version Figure 02) have now also been delivered, as Figure AI CEO Brett Adcock announced in a post, showing photos of the packaged robots as proof.

In December, some Figure AI employees shared pictures and videos showing the Figure robots in action, including at the company Christmas party. The robots were not brought there in their usual delivery packaging, but sat strapped into the back seat of the Cybertruck.

At the party, they acted as DJs and dancers, dressed up in style as deadMau5.

The company will move into a new building in Sunnyvale in early 2025 to continue its growth. Here is a video of a tour of the still empty building. The robots themselves have already covered many kilometers in the old headquarters and created the following 3D map with their cameras:

To keep up to date with Figure AI’s progress, it pays to follow Figure CEO Brett Adcock on LinkedIn. The company is also hiring, here are the current open positions.
